A7S5 – Resolutions as Alatopel Rejoices
Riding upon the eagles, their uneventful return to Alatopel is bolstered by sunshine and a mild breeze. Even the woods seem brighter, drier and friendly all the way back to Alatopel. As the eagles land outside the wooden fortress, the village erupts with activity and the sounds of joy. As they pass through the gates, Deoch and common folk gather to welcome them back. Yet all is not pleasant as they soon learn Lord Arnulf passed away during the siege of Alatopel. How he led warriors who stood against an Orc band who had breached the walls.
Thus, they learn Malbeth is now the Lord of Alatopel with
Calanhir and Deoch as his court advisors. Thus Khalin approaches the new Lord for
his blessing as he claims the Tower of Amon Galenloth “in the name of those
dwarves forced to labor its construction!” Malbeth agrees, with the understanding
Alatopel and Amon Galenloth will form an alliance of mutual defense.
·
Khalin sends word
seeking more of his kinsmen to restore the tower to its Dwarf-hold status.
·
The dwarves rescued
along the road also join his forces.
· Even Alatopel’s dwarven smith joins their cause.
Per his study of Enemy Weapons, Thran is able to treat the necrotic damage inflicted by the Fell Beast’s Black Breath cloud and the wounds inflected by Caelindur’s blade of Mordor.
Glom recovers fairly well after a hot bath, decent wholesome food and the open hearts of the people of Alatopel. He becomes a bit more talkative and smiles every now and then. He looks very much like a noble dwarf now that he is no longer tormented, though his eyes betray suffering and pain that truly cannot be extinguished. Perhaps elven healers can relieve more of his mental suffering. Even Khalin begrudgingly suggests such an idea.
After a week within the wooden fortress, the fellowship soon gathers supplies and gear to take to the road, “We are still on the trail of Belemir and must consider the Throne Pallando crafted as another evil devise to be destroyed. And least not forget the shards the queen still seeks.” Once again the villagers gather to see them off. Yet before they go, Iwar approaches with his 13yo son Leogir mounted on a horse and dressed in noble armor, “If I may be so bold as to ask you allow my son to accompany you. He turns 14 soon which is the age our woodsmen journey forth into the world. Do not think of him as a burden as he aided in the defense of the village. It was his dreams and visions that guided our forces to the next wave of attackers that threatened our walls. May his dreams guide you in your quest.”
[At this point the PCs level up to 8th level.]
[The campaign outline called for these last sessions to be chapter 8, yet the PCs’ actions altered the sequence such that we skip chapter 8 and go right to Chapter 9.]
